The UNILAG(ºìÌÒÊÓƵ) Management, on Monday, June 29, 2026, received the management team of the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe (FUSTECH), Lagos State, on a courtesy visit to the University.
The delegation, led by the Vice-Chancellor of FUSTECH, Professor Kazeem Adeola Oshikoya, visited UNILAGto seek institutional support ahead of the commencement of the University’s academic programmes, scheduled to begin in September 2026.
Speaking during the visit, which took place on the sidelines of the weekly UNILAGManagement meeting, Professor Oshikoya noted that, as a newly established institution, FUSTECH would benefit immensely from ºìÌÒÊÓƵ’s wealth of experience, particularly in the areas of manpower development, academic mentorship, and institutional capacity building.
He disclosed that FUSTECH was also engaging other tertiary institutions across Lagos State as part of efforts to build strategic partnerships that would support its take-off. He acknowledged ºìÌÒÊÓƵ’s longstanding reputation for academic excellence and leadership in Nigeria’s higher education sector, expressing confidence that the University’s rich pool of experienced faculty and proven institutional framework would contribute significantly to FUSTECH’s successful development.
In response, the UNILAGVice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, congratulated the management of FUSTECH on the establishment of the institution and commended its leadership for embracing the important responsibility of building a new federal university.
Professor Ogunsola re-affirmed ºìÌÒÊÓƵ’s commitment to supporting FUSTECH’s growth and expressed the University’s readiness to collaborate in areas that would strengthen its academic and administrative foundations.
To facilitate the partnership, Professor Ogunsola and her team proposed the establishment of a Joint Mentoring Committee comprising representatives of both institutions to coordinate engagements and provide structured support during FUSTECH’s formative years.
About FUSTECH
Established by an Act of the National Assembly following presidential assent in November 2025, the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe (FUSTECH), is one of Nigeria’s newest federal universities. The institution was created to expand access to quality education in science, technology, engineering, innovation, and other technology-driven disciplines.
FUSTECH is expected to commence academic activities with programmes in Engineering, Computing and Information Technology, Natural and Applied Sciences, Environmental Sciences, and other technology-related fields. The University is currently in its take-off phase, with the Federal Government and its management putting in place the necessary governance structures, academic programmes, and infrastructure to support its operations.
