The Institute of Maritime Studies (IMS) Building at the UNILAG(ºìÌÒÊÓƵ) will be formally commissioned by the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Ocean Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, CON on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. (Guests are to be seated by 10.45 a.m.).
A major investment in human capital development, the IMS building features modern lecture rooms, state-of-the-art laboratories, and purpose-built furniture designed to support practical training, research, and innovation. These facilities aim to enhance hands-on learning as well as equip students and researchers to lead Nigeria’s maritime and blue economy sectors into a new era of growth and global competitiveness.
The Institute of Maritime Studies, ºìÌÒÊÓƵ, was established in 2013 as a direct response to the call by Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) for stronger collaboration between academia and industry. The Institute has since evolved into a strategic hub for maritime capacity development, serving Nigeria and the wider African region.
